DESCRIPTION
1964 Austin Mini Cooper 998 in stunning Tartan Red with a black roof.
The red and grey interior is outstanding and the period Webasto, full length sunroof adds a big fun factor on a sunny day.
The Mini was restored around 5 years and the paint still looks fresh and immaculate today. The engine and gearbox has recently been full rebuilt by Phil Annings (ex Swiftune Chief engineer) and all of the running gear and suspension has also been refurbished. It has completed just over 800 miles since it was rebuilt. The spec of the engine is one of Phil Anning’s road spec Gt engines so has a modified unleaded head with 33.3mm inlet and 26.1mm exhaust valves, 10:1 compression, it’s +.040″ over bored with later press-fit flat top pistons. The cam is one of his Gt road profiles, a very efficient cam offering a great spread of torque and good performance at the top end. Everything is balanced, it has a road steel flywheel and backplate and a Cooper S clutch. Arp Fasteners. It has the 3 synchro helical gearbox, 3.4 final drive on a 4 pin diff. As a result the is the best Mk1 Mini I have ever driven. The torque is available from low revs and it pulls very effectively through the revs. I would say that it offers 40% more power and performance than other Mk1 998 Coopers that I have driven while feeling refined, lower revving at speed and capable of being driven all day. Some of the 60’s minis do feel fragile but this feels strong and very capable. It is finished to a show standard with nicely fitting doors and body panels. I think you would have to be very lucky to find a better overall package considering the cosmetic / body condition, interior finish and engineering excellence all in one 57 year old mini. The mileage is showing 15500 miles and there is evidence in the history file that this could be the original mileage from new.
