DESCRIPTION

This Mini is quite a special machine. It started life as a humble Mini 850, and converted by the owner to the ultimate Mini for use on road and track. The engine is replaced by a 1275 A bored to 1293 ccm. Inside this engine, Omega die cast pistons are fitted in combination with Swiftune SW10 camshafts, double chain timing with tensioner and a Swiftune A+ oil pump. The cilinder head is a modified 12G940 A-series with heavy duty studs. There is also a Swiftune CSI ignition fitted. The engine is breathing through two big SU HIF44 carbs fitted with trumpets, and the fuel pump is a very reliable Facet. The gearbox is a DAM5626A + rod change with straight cut gears, and a Quaife ATB differential is also installed. The Verto clutch is to race specification and so is the MED ultralight flywheel.

As you may expect, this technical specification makes this Mini an extremely fast and efficient sportscar. Beside the engine upgrades, the Mini has a fully adjustable suspension set-up, a full rollcage, two comfortable Corbeau racing seats with Sabelt harnesses, and an extended steering column to create the optimal seating position.

The car has a Belgian road registration, but is in fact also a fantastic trackday device. The steering is razor sharp and the straight cut gearbox is a delight to use and allows quick gear changes. The intake sound of the carburettors plays a game of "to the loudest" with the gearbox noises, and this makes the sense of competition in this little rocket even more special. The driving position is almost perfect, and the pedals are properly set up for heel-and-toe. This car is really fast and offers a driving experience I never had before in any other Mini (apart from a Swiftune FIA Cooper S Mk1 maybe...).

Building a Mini to this specification did cost a lot more then the asking price, and if you are looking for a classic trackday tool or just fast road car then a testdrive with this pocket rocket is a must.
