DESCRIPTION
We are very pleased to offer a stunning and very rare 1971 Austin Mini Cooper S. 1275cc. MK3. Finished in gleaming Glacier white this Cooper S has been very well looked after throughout its 53 year history and is presented with excellent provenance and a continuous history, ticking all of the correct MK3 “S” boxes. Owning and driving one of these very special Minis is an absolute privilege. Choosing the correct one is important and choosing one with the level of provenance that this Cooper S has is a very good starting point. It has all of its original attributes including the shell, engine and gearbox. It is completely correct which is backed up with a letter from the MK3 Cooper S register confirming this. This is a full matching numbers example, including body number, FE number and commission number. It has only had four previous owners which is a real find, the last owner has cherished it for ten years and there are also copies of previous V5s detailing the three other owners. It also has a copy of the Warwickshire county council registration record stating its registration date of the 14th of January 1971.
In 2016 it was restored to a very high standard with detailed pics included in the huge history folder. This also included the running gear, engine and gearbox and an over haul of the twin carbs. It has settled in nicely and is easily of show quality but yet ready to be driven like a Cooper S Mini should be.
The MK3 Cooper S is a very rare sight these days and their values continue to rise as they are a very collectable variant as is any Mini with the Cooper S badge. Subtle styling means that these machines can really surprise people when there out on the open road. The only real tell tale sign is the discreet boot badge and of course the twin tanks. Only 1572 were ever made and very few remain today.
On the road this Cooper S will not disappoint, I absolutely love driving this Mini, the acceleration is very brisk, make no mistake, this Cooper S really flies, the original engine is super smooth, holds a very strong oil pressure and is a mated to a smooth gearbox. It has servo assisted disc brakes so it stops as well. Handling and road holding is sublime on its Hydrolastic suspension, the uprated system used on the S makes it one of the best handling Minis ever made. It is fitted with a set of period Dunlop D1 alloys with Falken tyres and the original S wheels are also included with the car. This Mini will guarantee you have a huge grin especially pushing on round the twisty stuff.
The interior is also very well presented and the understated theme continues. The front seats have been recovered and it also has a new roof liner but the rest is all original giving this Mini an unmistakeable period feel. The all important three clock dash houses 130 MPH speedo and a period Smiths rev counter sits alongside. It has a period Wood rim steering wheel and the original steering wheel is also available with the Mini.
This Cooper has a very solid shell, and is completely body coloured underneath. It has the correct vented sill and a detailed boot and very well presented engine bay. The paintwork gleams. This Cooper S is a very good looking Mini that belies its vintage. It has certainly been drawing a crowd during its preparation stage here and wherever I have taken it. The rear tail light has also been signed by the rally legend Paddy Hopkirk! It will give its lucky new owner access to a very exclusive club and the opportunity to enjoy the unique experience that only a Cooper S offers.
This Cooper S is fully serviced, tuned, checked and driven. It will be supplied with a full MOT and is also MOT and tax exempt.
